DNC Chairman Dean on DeLay Indictment

Washington, DC – Today, a Texas grand jury returned a criminal indictment against House GOP Leader Tom DeLay on a charge of conspiracy. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement, saying DeLay’s indictment is symptomatic of the Republicans’ culture of corruption in Washington, DC:

“Today, the state of Texas is doing what the Republican-controlled federal government has failed repeatedly to do, which is hold Republicans in Washington accountable for their culture of corruption. This alleged illegal activity reaches to the highest levels of the Republican Party.

Yes, you mentioned that already. I was hoping you could go more in depth. Perhaps you could inform me as to what this illegal activity entails.

“With House Republican Leader Tom DeLay under criminal indictment, Senate Republican Leader Frist facing SEC and Department of Justice investigations, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove under investigation, the Republican leadership in Washington is now spending more time answering questions about ethical misconduct than doing the people’s business.”

Wow! Do you have so little substantiation that all you can do is say the same two sentences over and over. Details.. I want details.

“Tom DeLay is neither the beginning nor the end of the Washington Republicans’ ethical problems. America can do better than leaders who use their power to promote their own personal interests instead of the interests of the American people who elected them. We simply must change the way business is done in Washington.”

There’s my answer. You don’t have any facts so you? Nope. None.

The Smoking Gun has a copy of the indictment. As best as I can tell, two other guys did something wrong with campaign funds, and then at the end they mention Delay as doing something. Being a Republican I think. I’m not a lawyer, so I don’t know section blah blah title, whatever. I just know that no details are provided, even in the indictment. I’ve been taken to court before, and details are provided in the charges themselves. So and so did such and such at whatever time and this violates section whatever. Some such person was a witness. Etc. So even though I don’t understand legalese, even the indictment seems to be devoid of any substantiation.

Why do you think I would actually be named “Deranged?” Apparently, I may be deranged, but you’re stupid.

House Republican Leader Tom DeLay and two associates were indicted today for criminal conspiracy.

Specifically, the charge is conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws. The indictment is another stark reminder that Republicans have a lucrative money-for-influence machine that will do anything — including breaking the law — to funnel corporate and special interest money into their party in huge amounts.

Could I have some details please? Specifics? What part, precisely did he play?

People ask what the difference is between the two parties, and this indictment gives one clear answer.

Republicans are committed to pushing the legal limits to collect checks from special interests who want to use government for their own narrow purposes. Democrats are committed to funding our party with contributions from ordinary Americans so that when we take power, the government will represent the people.

Who needs special interest groups when you have George Soros? And shouldn’t that say that “the government will resent the people?” You put a few too many letters in there. What makes you so sure that you will ever take power. I notice that you didn’t say when Democrats get elected to power. You take it. The fact is you can’t win an election, because you act like deranged monkeys. Heh. I said “Monkeys.”

The leader of an al-Qaida cell in Madrid yesterday became only the second person anywhere to be jailed for the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington when he received a 27-year sentence for conspiracy to carry out terrorist murders.

Imad Eddin Barakat Yarkas, 41, who was born in Syria, was one of 14 people found guilty of belonging to the terrorist group in Europe’s biggest al-Qaida trial. The court also sentenced an Al-Jazeera TV war correspondent, Tayssir Alouni, to seven years in jail for collaborating with al-Qaida by acting as a financial courier. (My emphasis)

Is this really any surprise? Not to me. It’s been obvious for how long that Al-Jazeera has been a tool of propaganda for the terrorists? It’s nothing more than corroborating evidence.
