Berg: Zarqawi ‘Close Personal Friend’

June 9th, 2006 by Fiar · 9 Comments ·

Abu Musab al Zarqawi was reported killed in an airstrike yesterday. Following the announcement, Michael Berg, father of Nick Berg whose gruesome decapitation was posted on the internet and made national headlines, talked to reporters, and called the death of his dear friend a “tragedy.”

“First of all, I’m not even certain that al-Zarqawi even killed my son,” said Michael Berg, who doesn’t believe the videotape of his son’s execution or what he’s been told by the FBI any more than he believes conspiracy theories suggesting his son was killed by the U.S. government.

Nick Berg's HeadBerg told reporters that Zarqawi was a “close personal friend” of his. “[Zarqawi] called me after the murder of my son and expressed his condolences. He was very sympathetic. I just can’t beleive that a person like that would murder my son like that.”

Berg said the blame for most deaths in Iraq should be placed on President Bush, who, Berg said, is “more of a terrorist than Zarqawi.”

“Zarqawi felt my son’s breath on his hand as held the knife against his throat. Zarqawi had to look in his eyes when he did it,” Berg added, pausing to collect himself. “George Bush sits there glassy-eyed in his office with pieces of paper and condemns people to death. That to me is a real terrorist.”

John Murtha took to the floor of the United States congress after it was revealed that Zarqawi was alive when troops on the ground found him, and declared that “this is yet another example of American soldiers commiting cold blooded murder against innocent civilians.”

Asked about Murtha’s comments, Berg said he agreed. “We have created today many, many, many more insurgents,” he said yesterday. “We have furthered the cycle of vengeance.”

UPDATE: Michael Berg has announced that he will be holding a candle light vigil outside his home tonight to commemorate the life of his dear friend, Abu Musab al Zarqawi.

I believe Mr Berg has traded his tin hat for a kaffiyeh, or whatever they call that headrag that Yasir Arafat (pbuh) used to wear.

I think he was already wearing it, Miriam.

I almost didn’t realize this was sarcasm. It seems so close to the reality.

Still doing my happy dance though.

That’s because so much of it is actual quoted text, Rich. Follow the two Philly.com links and see what I mean.

I can see why the liberal media doesn’t want to show pictures like those that you’ve shown: i.e. Zarqawi with Berg’s head.

It pisses me the hell off.

Maybe more people need to be pissed the hell off.

It pisses me off too, Steve. It’s the same thing as what we see with 9/11. They put it under the guise of “we must not upset people.” The real reason is, “we must not remind people who the real enemy is.”

More people do need to be upset, and reminded.
