According to an associated press story: Poll ratings for Bush fall below Clinton, Reagan
Not that I particularly give a hoot what the President’s poll numbers are, but I did find a few conclusions to be interesting. Karlyn Bowman, an analyst from the American Enterprise Institute said, “
This president should be glad he’s not running for re-election, but the president is clearly holding his base. It’s very important for him to keep the base support in terms of getting things done.”
Interesting. I always thought the conventional wisdom was that, come election time, a candidate had to sway the great and powerful “moderates.” Perhaps that’s why Bowman thinks it’s good that ‘W’ isn’t running for re-election. Either way, two facts remain:
1. The election would still be too far off to use current poll numbers as an accurate indicator. Or have they forgotten his poll numbers this time last year?
2. He’s NOT running for re-election. Sorry Moonbats.
GOP strategist, Charles Black said,
“I haven’t seen anything like it since Reagan, Bush follows through on issues that are largely popular with the base, even when it’s not popular with the general public to do so.”
Wha? Perhaps I can translate. No President since Reagan has kept campaign promises, and ruled by conviction, rather than consensus. Remember “No new taxes,” GHWB? Yup, Ol’ Dubya sticks to his word. By this report one would think that’s a BAD thing.
