I don’t get it. Is this supposed to be sarcastic? These Mattress Police people frighten me.

    Thanks for the link pimpin’….

And to the masters of sarcasm; does this sarcasm enforce the view of the Left (on the English language thing) or of the Right?

I didn’t know the bible was written in English, I thought they translated it to English. Or maybe that was Beowolf (and they did a terrible job with Beowolf, it was very difficult to read, and English is my first language).

As far as measurements go, I never cared for base 10 anyway, to ordinary.
Besides, too little thinking involved in doing conversions, with the metric system.
Everything is in the same base, how boring.
What ever happened to that legislation, wasn’t there legislation to convert the US to the metric system by some year (which has already passed?)

Look. It’s simple. We’ll all get along just fine if everyone would just do things my way.

They couldn’t figure out how to change all the speed limit signs into thermometers per hour. In fact, they couldn’t even figure out what the metric version of an “hour” was.

Oh, and the “not-Americans” could try bathing on a more regular basis.

The metric system would totally screw up football. “4th and centimeters”, “Down to the 1 meter line”. It would make the game teh ghey, but not quite as teh ghey as soccer.

I didn’t see Bacon presented in that fine list. Oh, well.

You joke about the metric hour, but did you know that the French tried to implement a 10 day week and 10 month year? It didn’t fly. Can’t imagine why, it makes so much sense.

It is not that the idea itself is bad, it is that change can be bad.

If we were not stuck with the current relative rate of the sun’s orbit around the earth, and the rate of the earth’s orbit around the sun, we could really simplify the time thing.
We can pretty much muck with how many months in a year, and how many days in a week.

The number 7 is really important. But even if there were 10 days in a week, we could still rest on the 7th but would overall have fewer days of rest. Anything less than 7 could be a problem for the interpret-the-bible-literally-unless(…)-crowd.

We can’t really alter a day or a year, without screwing with the rotation of the earth and sun and things we haven’t figured out how to do yet (although I had a professor once who thought that if we could just figure that one out, time measurement could be so simplified).
