Facts on Global Warming

Global warming hoax

There are too many people that don’t know the facts about global warming. Some may believe in global warming myths, while others simply don’t know all the global warming statistics.

In order to bring enlightenment, and most likely create a few myths of my own, I’ve developed this FAQ to provide you with all the global warming information you need.

What causes global warming?

The Sun. Without it, the Earth would be a cold, bleak, desolate wasteland. Much like Pluto, which is no longer a planet. Or Al Gore’s brain.

Is Global Warming real?

I wouldn’t say that global warming is not happening. But whether or not the Earth is genuinely going through a phase of warming or cooling is part of a natural cycle. The real question is whether Man Made global warming is a scam. Yes. Yes it is a scam. Just like Scientology.

Do you have pictures of global warming?

Don’t be silly. It’s impossible to have pictures of things that don’t exist. I find it interesting how many mythical things we have “pictures” of. For example, the famous photograph of the Loch Ness Monster is really a hand in the bathtub. Like so.

Loch Ness Monster

Of course, there are artist renderings of global warming. In other words, fake pictures. Like the one of the poor polar bears above. Do keep in mind, that these are fake, phony contrived images.

Nothing more than a hoax. Like the “Osama bin Laden” tapes. Basically the exact sort of thing you would expect from the AP or Reuters.

Is Ron Paul still running for President?

That’s an excellent question, but a better question would be: why is Ron Paul still running for President? He has about as much of a chance of winning as Barack Obama does in winning a professional bowling tournament.

How many votes does a person need to not get before they call it quits? What I do know is that this question has nothing to do with global warming.

Now that I think about it, they are both insane religious cults.

Is there any evidence against global warming?

Of course there is, but as with other religions, petty details like “facts” and “evidence” are of no concern to the practitioners of the global warming religion faith. You can show as much data as you want to Al Gore and global warming’s hysterical hyperventalationists, but it will get you nowhere.

Can global warming be prevented?

Sure it can. I can also move objects with my mind. Barack Obama can bowl a perfect game, Al Gore isn’t insane, and controlling the weather is fun and easy.

Are there any natural causes of global warming?

Almost all causes of global warming are entirely natural. Volcanoes erupt and spew tons of “greenhouse gases” into the air. Volcanoes are one of the leading causes of global warming.

Cow farts are another leading cause. The process of evaporation over the oceans are also contribute to the natural causes of global warming.

Are humans the cause of global warming?

No. Whatever factor we play is nearly insignificant.

Is global warming for kids?

Kids love global warming! Whether they’re running through the sprinkler, taking a refreshing dip in the pool, or cooling off with some ice cream; there’s really no downside to global warming for kids.

Now you are armed with the facts about global warming. Go forth and club a baby seal, punch a dirty hippy, and feel secure in the knowledge that not even Al Gore’s palatial estate produces as large a carbon footprint as a volcano does.

So, turn on the lights, idle the car, and crank up the AC. It really won’t matter any more once Yellowstone or Anak Krakatau blows.

Humor-Blogs.com did not know that Yellowstone was a supervolcano, and I can’t believe I just linked to Wikipedia.

Here are a few other articles related to global warming information:

    You sir, are a spiteful, woefully un-informed, under educated, spewer of lies and untruths.

    I demand that you change this article immediately to reflect the truth that all scientists everywhere, claim as fact.

    What right do you have to try to dissuade the public and harm the planet?

    If you don’t do as I say and fold to my demands, I’ll say nasty things about you.

    I hope this teaches you that you can’t just say what you please.

  • 2 Insolublog // Apr 9, 2008 at 8:16 pm

    So you are saying that the man-made concept of man-made global warming, is itself entirely man-made. Now I know why Al Gore thinks the earth has a fever. His cold, desolate wasteland of a brain is experiencing a serious thermal potential with respect to the environment.

  • 3 les James // Apr 9, 2008 at 8:49 pm

    Sorry, my mistake.

    Whoa dude! Ix-nay on the ‘Global Warming is a scam’ thing!

    I’m presently making very good money selling larger carbon footprints to wanna-be rock stars.

    Cool your jets a bit and their might be a few “carbon credits” coming your way.

    Know what I mean?

    Can global warming be prevented?

    Sure. Get everyone to jump up and down for an hour starting at noon local time for a month and we will end up knocking the planet to a higher orbit and thus farther from the sun that heats us. We can call it Earth Hour — oh, wait. That name’s taken. Sorry.

    How can you have “facts”.
    One person’s “facts” are another person’s “fiction”.

    Now, as for the behaviors, that people are being asked to change, because they might be contributing to global warming;
    There are a lot of other reasons for changing these behaviors.
    But it means sacrifice.
    So it is most comfortable to deny that these behaviors are a problem.

  • 8 Eileen // Apr 12, 2008 at 5:50 pm

    As for those ice formations,
    They were caused by waves, which were warmer than they would be, without global warming.

  • 11 Fiar // Apr 13, 2008 at 5:12 pm

    You people are fucking clueless when it comes to the difference between responsible behavior and government enforced behavior. I oppose the latter almost unilaterally.

    I recycle. I make efficient use of things, most especially because it’s more cost effective. I hate people that litter. What I don’t want is Big Mother intruding on people’s lives, and stripping the individuals of their personal responsibility, thus resulting in a society that is indoctrinated to follow the orders of Big Mother, and blaming everyone but themselves when they fuck up.

    Get it through your heads. The issue is whether or not the government should have anything to do with anything. Not whether people should live responsibly.

    The whole Global Warming hoax is 100% about more government regulation, more government intrusion, and more taxes.

    The entire movement is funded and fueled by organizations using “ecology” to impose socialism. Pure and simple. Socialism is the goal.

  • 12 Fiar // Apr 13, 2008 at 5:20 pm

    How arrogant are people to think that they are so significant as to be able to influence the temperature of the entire Earth?

    We’re not that important in the grand scheme of things. We make our buildings, and play with our toys, but one volcano and , BOOM! It’s all over.

    We’re a blink of the eye in the history of the Universe, and we’ll all be gone one day. And NO ONE in the entire Universe will know we were ever here.

    There will be no trace of our existence. Forget the romantic notions of Sci-Fi movies, where some future culture shakes their head in shame.

    “Damn you! They blew it up!”

    It will NOT happen that way. No one will ever know we even existed!

    Got it. We’re simply NOT THAT IMPORTANT!

  • 13 Eileen // Apr 29, 2008 at 3:13 pm

    Fiar,
    I have a low self esteem.
    Anything perceived as arrogance is really just a cover.

    History shows that companies do act selfishly related to a lack of willingness to control negative externalities they are not willing to pay for.
    Look at the history of the industrial revolution.
    Look at the current practice of moving production overseas, where environmental laws are not as stringent.

    I am not talking about Global Warming alone (or maybe at all). I am talking about pollution and depletion of resources.

    As far as the larger system goes, yes we are not significant.
    But my concern is not the larger system. My concern is the water and air that is now needed to sustain the current life forms on the planet.

    As a species we are not that significant, on a universal (or even global) scale.
    So What.

  • 14 Fiar // Apr 29, 2008 at 4:40 pm

    I agree with you entirely. The problem is the attempt to conflate the viewpoint you expressed, and I agreed with, into the scam issue of global warming.

    Conservation and the global warming hysteria have exactly zero to do with each other. They are not even framed the same way.

    I want clean water, because I need to drink it and bathe in it. I want clean air, because I need to breathe it. The global warming alarmists want to advance the notion that conservation still isn’t good enough. In fact, nothing is ever good enough until some law, tax, and regulation is passed.

    everyone who said global warming is a hoax and especially whoever wrote this article…you are all a bunch of drooling morons. I cant believe that you think volcanoes are one of the major contributors of global warming. They do produce greenhouse gases but they dont produce 28 billions tons of it every year, like we humans do, and thats just CO2, if you factor in methane, dinitrogen monoxide, and cfc’s we surely outweigh any naturally created greenhouse gases.
    Additionally, saying that global warming is a natural process is a misunderstanding on your part and i will hence enlighten you. What you are really referring to is not global warming, but the greenhouse effect which IS a naturally ocurring process by which short wavelength UV radiation from the sun goes through the atmosphere, heats the earth, and is radiated into the atmosphere as infrared long wavelength heat which is in turn trapped by greenhouse gases and reemmitted toward the earth allowing it to maintain a habitable 16 degrees celcius.
    Global warming on the other hand is the process by which an increase in the presence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere causes more infrared heat to be trapped and reemited toward the earth hence increasing the average temperature.
    I hope that information helps you sill fellows to understand the issue better.

    First off. How do you prove that there is NO global warming?…….Well?…No I didn’t think you had an answer. Why do ignorant people like you believe the disinformation campaigns. You either have no sense of protection of humanity, or you have a serious death-wish, or you are just plain stupid. I presume you are American because about 50% of Americans don’t care or don’t believe in global warming. Which is half of the global problem. I am one of the Americans who has motivation to do something about this crisis. Truly it is people like you who cause global warming because of your ignorance. Even though the vast majority of us contribute, it is you who causes it. I don’t see how you can continue on not believing when there are FACTS. And the definition of fact is as follows: something that actually exists; reality; truth. This is reality. You can’t go on pretending there is no global warming. It is a major problem, and still loads of people carry on with their regular routines. They do not even try to be environmentally friendly. Even if you don’t believe, you can still make changes to environmentally friendly things because they usually help reduce the amount of money you pay for bills and necessaries. It is just common sense. So THINK! The world frowns upon people like you.

    There are disinformation campaigns out there whose goals are similar to yours. I wouldn’t know what their, or your motives are because I am helping people solve global warming. But either you are a misinformed or you are part of a disinformation caimpaign. These disinformation caimpaigns try to make people think that global warming is a theory, and make them think that the theory is disputed. But it is not a theory. It is not disputed. There are one hundered some scientific documents on the subject of global warming. And not one of them disagrees. It is FACT. Reality. Actually exsists. And that truth is going to wipe out the human race if we don’t do something major. And that is the fact you people do not accept and that is your fault.

    Even Though you don’t believe in global warming, you should still try to be green. Being green is actually cheaper than regular routines.

  • 21 Fiar // Aug 22, 2008 at 5:28 pm

    Your argument sounds eerily similar to the “you should believe in Jesus just in case it’s true” argument.

    I don’t believe in mythologies, whether it’s Jesus or man made global warming. Have fun with your stupid religion of global warming.

    One more thing. You also sound like one of the more hysterical fundamentalists of your man made global warming religion.

  • 22 Fiar // Aug 22, 2008 at 5:40 pm

    Your scare tactics, and campaign of fear and lies disgusts me. You people are too stupid to realize that you have bought into a “solid state earth” religion. The Earth does change, and there is nothing we have to do with it, or can do about it other than adapt.

    Just because people want to build structures on coastlines with no forthought to the fact that the coastline WILL change, because that’s what coastlines do, does not mean we are all doomed. It means we have engaged in the construction of very expensive and poorly thought out city plans that did not account for the fact that the earth changes.

    We used to be far less sedentary. There are not more hurricanes, or more floods. There is simply more damage because we have more people, with more expensive, more permanent structures, and that’s all there is to it.

    You can’t compare a nomadic society of a few thousand to a sedentary one of millions. The COST of the damage is increasing, because the DENSITY of people and structures affected by a NATURAL disaster has increased.

    But I don’t expect a religious fundamentalist to understand logic, because that goes against the very premise of believing so fervently in a mythology.

    The earth does change over time. It’s a natural process, and I believe and expect it to happen.

    But you can’t seriouly believe that humans have no effect what so ever on the CO2 levels of the Earth at this curent time. Just look at all the pollution cars, factorys, ships and so on produce everyday. It’s an enormous amount, and you don’t think this has an effect on the state of the Earths temperature?

    If you were to look at data and information of the global temperatures, global weather patterns, global CO2 emmisions of say 200 yrs ago, before mobiles, before cars, before industrial areas, before major pollution, you would see that modern technology and the excessive consumer driven minds of the population of today has caused AT LEAST half of the effects of today. But I don’t think that information exists.

    If I were you I wouldn’t judge ‘Global Warming’ so quickly. You might look back and say, “hmm, maybe i shoud have given it a little bit more rope, not been so critical of it.” I’m not saying you will, just might, but most likely will.

  • 30 Informed Reader // Nov 17, 2008 at 10:16 am

    Well, all I have to say is this author is a complete idiot. I would wager a guess to say they never graduated from college as well seeing as he does not have to ability to look at facts and see them for what they are. If he had a competent thought process here are the links he would make.

    Humans are currently causing Carbon emission outputs to at least double from what otherwise would be its ‘natural state’. Don’t believe me? What do you think your car is burning everytime you drive to McDonalds? What do you think keeps your lights on at night? What do you think keeps your computer running right now so you can read this? While the author would probably like you to believe it is magic seeing as the ‘truths’ he believes in would lead him to believe in magic as well, I am sad to say it is not. How about electricity? Well yes, but thats not it either. Carbon is what makes all your fun gadgets run. Sure electricity is needed as the final product to run your equipment, but billions of tons of coal and thus carbon emmissions are what creates the electricity that runs these things. If anyone wants to try and dispute that fact I would love to hear it, but I doubt you have an argument.

    Now lets move onto another fact. Green House Gases (aka Carbon emissions) are what causes the reflected sun rays to return to earth and thus increases the temperature of the earth. The more Green house gases in the atmosphere the hotter the surface temperature of the earth. This is another fact I would love for someone to try and dispute.

    Now we all know the author never made it past high school, but maybe even he is still apt enough to be able to put A and B together and make a reasonable conclusion.

    Humans have at least doubled the natural state Carbon emissions on the Earth, more carbon emissions mean greater surface temperatures……

    WELL that means Humans are at least a partial cause of Global Warming. Hate to bring logic to the table with a ranting lunatic who posts articles for no reason other than to satisfy his mythical whims, but if he doesn’t listen maybe at least reasonable educated people will.

    Dear Author – If you want to not beleive in Global Warming so that you can continue to drive your big, gas guzzling car without guilt, be my guest. However, we’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t spread the contamination of Stupid that has clearly grasped a hold of your brain.

    That picture link that led me here is completely incorrect – That is not an ice formation caused by waves, it’s freackin’ melting ice. Any retard (exept our Author) could tell you that. And to further screw yourself, there are pictures of global warming. Unless, of course, you claim that giant cracks in ice walls that have never been naturally observed before have no connection to this.

    At you claiming volcanos are the leading cause of Global Warming – lawl. Volcanos are not even remotely related to the subject. Yes, global warming is natural. No, the natural course of Global warming is not harmful. But the global warming we’re fighting is not natural, unless the CO2 shooting out of the exhaust pipe of your gas-guzzler is natural.

    I could go on faaaaaaar beyond this, but I highly doubt a word of it will get through your 17-inch skull and into that hazelnut you call a brain.

  • 33 Fiar // Nov 25, 2008 at 10:21 am

    Carbon dioxide is not an air pollutant. It is plant food. All life on Earth depends on it. It is natural. It forms the bubbles in bread, champagne, and Coca-Cola. You breathe it out, and plants breathe it in.

    The Earth contains a lot of CO2, but the atmosphere contains so little that the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) rightly calls CO2 a “trace gas”. A scientific mystery is why the air does not hold more CO2 than it does. Half a billion years ago, there was almost 20 times today’s CO2 concentration.

    Most farmers would prefer to grow crops under much-higher concentrations of CO2 than today’s 385 parts per million—less than 1/25 of 1 percent of the atmosphere. To feed the world, low CO2 concentration is not such a great idea. High concentrations are better, and they cause no harm. Experiments have shown that even delicate plants such as orchids thrive at CO2 concentrations of 10,000 ppm.

    http://www.indonesiamatters.co.....he-planet/

    The scientific reality is that throughout its history planet earth has undergone numerous climatic changes and upheavals of enormous proportions. On each occasion the planet survived and emerged with a new and generally different totality and life forms. Even tracing planet history to comparatively recent time, it can and has been shown that variation in world temperature has been a regular phenomenon. We have had relatively recent ice ages followed periods of warming and then additional cooling periods. There is evidence that we are actually in a cooling trend related to a considerable reduction in sun spots. The sun is really the dictator of what happens to temperature on earth, not whether we drive SUVs or keep our homes cool in summer and warm in winter. If anyone doubts this, a simple Google search will reveal a plethora of scientific studies to this effect. I have collected literally hundreds of reports about climate change; all proving beyond a doubt that human activity is not responsible for climate change on earth.

    http://www.rightsidenews.com/2.....-warm.html

    Will the BBC and the others taken in by the global warming pseudo-science realise that the world’s climate changes by itself and always has and that our efforts to change it are puny and of no real effect. The snow we are experiencing is no more proof of global cooling than a warm summer is of global warming.

    http://notasheepmaybeagoat.blo.....bitch.html

    Global warming was supposed to make “killer” hurricanes right?:

    Here we go again – hurricane season has come to an end and yet another year has failed to produce the widespread pain and suffering that can reinforce the claim that the buildup of greenhouse gases is the root cause of all the damage. We have covered this topic dozens of times in the past, but the literature on the subject never seems to stop oozing right through the distortion of the greenhouse crusaders. We get tired of writing about this subject over and over and we suspect you see this as another in a very long line of essays on the topic…we feel each other’s pain. The hurricane story should have been destroyed a decade ago, but for whatever reason, the global warmers continue to insist that hurricanes are increasing in frequency, intensity, and/or duration and the blame should sit squarely on carbon dioxide emissions from the United States.
    ~~~
    The bottom line is that claims that hurricanes are increasing due to global warming are questionable, if not laughable given the enormous amount of evidence that at the very least suggests this is a very complex question.
    http://www.worldclimatereport......y-lessons/
    Planet has cooled since Bush took office:
    On this symbolic date, it seems worthwhile to reflect that the planet has not only cooled since George W.   • 34 Fiar // Nov 25, 2008 at 10:25 am
    Global warming? Nope, it’s another Ice Age:
    The IPCC prediction of global temperatures, 1° F warmer by 2011 and 2° F by 2038 (Fig. 1), stand little chance of being correct. NASA’s imagery showing that the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) has shifted to its cool phase is right on schedule as predicted by past climate and PDO changes (Easterbrook, 2001, 2006, 2007). The PDO typically lasts 25-30 years and assures North America of cool, wetter climates during its cool phases and warmer, drier climates during its warm phases. The establishment of the cool PDO, together with similar cooling of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), virtually assures several decades of global cooling and the end of the past 30-year warm phase. It also means that the IPCC predictions of catastrophic global warming this century were highly inaccurate.
    ~~~

    Global warming (i.e, the warming since 1977) is over. The minute increase of anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere (0.008%) was not the cause of the warming—it was a continuation of natural cycles that occurred over the past 500 years.

    The PDO cool mode has replaced the warm mode in the Pacific Ocean, virtually assuring us of about 30 years of global cooling, perhaps much deeper than the global cooling from about 1945 to 1977. Just how much cooler the global climate will be during this cool cycle is uncertain. Recent solar changes suggest that it could be fairly severe, perhaps more like the 1880 to 1915 cool cycle than the more moderate 1945-1977 cool cycle. A more drastic cooling, similar to that during the Dalton and Maunder minimums, could plunge the Earth into another Little Ice Age, but only time will tell if that is likely.

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/i.....;aid=10783

    Global warming is dead:

    Recently, NBC’s chief environmental affairs analyst Anne Thompson once said there is “no doubt that man is responsible for global warming” and every scientist worth their weight in beaker solvent agrees that the globe has been warming steadily over the past four decades.

    One problem, though—the past two-plus years have seen a precipitous decline in global temperatures that negated the increase of the prior eight-year period (1998-2006). We’re talking a whole 0.2 degrees Celsius! Then there’s the nasty problem of the “little Ice Age” which appeared to be sending the world into an icy new era during the 1970s.

    With world temperatures already depressed far below normal levels, the subsequent rise over the following three decades becomes much more ominous. It is exactly this kind of clever accounting that is responsible for the hysterical call for enormous curbing of carbon-dioxide emissions and the institution of crippling cap-and-trade schemes all across the world which target emission-heavy industries like coal-fired power plants for extinction.
    ~~~
    No matter which side any particular observer may fall on in this debate, one thing has become ominously clear—the verbiage is changing. It is rare to hear the words “global warming” coming from anyone but rabid environmentalists these days, while “climate change” is the term du jour. Perhaps a modicum of backpedaling in light of hard evidence against their once prominent beliefs? You decide.
    650 Scientists to Dissent on Man-Made Global Warming Claims
    The UN is currently holding a global warming conference in Poland. During this conference the UN claimed that man-made global warming is proved without a shadow of a doubt. There is only one problem though, there are 650 scientists who are ready to testify that the global warming alarmists are full of s#1t. 650 strong and growing.
    Here are some excerpts from the above linked article of what these scientists are going to testify:
    “I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.”- Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.
    “Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical.” – Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology and formerly of NASA who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”
    Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.”- UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.
    “The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists,”- Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet.
    “The models and forecasts of the UN IPCC “are incorrect because they only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity.” – Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico
    “It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.”- U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.
    “Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – . Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, NZ.
    “After reading [UN IPCC chairman] Pachauri’s asinine comment [comparing skeptics to] Flat Earthers, it’s hard to remain quiet.” – Climate statistician Dr. William M. Briggs, who specializes in the statistics of forecast evaluation, serves on the American Meteorological Society’s Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review.
    “For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming? For how many years must cooling go on?” – Geologist Dr. David Gee the chairman of the science committee of the 2008 International Geological Congress who has authored 130 plus peer reviewed papers, and is currently at Uppsala University in Sweden.
    “Gore prompted me to start delving into the science again and I quickly found myself solidly in the skeptic camp…Climate models can at best be useful for explaining climate changes after the fact.”- Meteorologist Hajo Smit of Holland, who reversed his belief in man-made warming to become a skeptic, is a former member of the Dutch UN IPCC committee.
    “Many [scientists] are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined.”- Atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh.
    “Creating an ideology pegged to carbon dioxide is a dangerous nonsense…The present alarm on climate change is an instrument of social control, a pretext for major businesses and political battle. It became an ideology, which is concerning.” – Environmental Scientist Professor Delgado Domingos of Portugal, the founder of the Numerical Weather Forecast group, has more than 150 published articles.
    “CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or another….Every scientist knows this, but it doesn’t pay to say so…Global warming, as a political vehicle, keeps Europeans in the driver’s seat and developing nations walking barefoot.”- Dr. Takeda Kunihiko, vice-chancellor of the Institute of Science and Technology Research at Chubu University in Japan.
    “The [global warming] scaremongering has its justification in the fact that it is something that generates funds.”- Award-winning Paleontologist Dr. Eduardo Tonni, of the Committee for Scientific Research in Buenos Aires and head of the Paleontology Department at the University of La Plata.
    They won’t even call it global warming anymore. They are backpedalling and now they call it climate change. Why? Because the whole thing was bullshit to begin with. The fact is that so called global warming or climate change, or whatever other bullshit term you want to use is a hoax perpetrated by people with an agenda to increase regulation and taxation. There’s nothing scientific about it. Things are in a constant state of change. This is natural.
    Let me ask you, Maggie. If Global Warming/Climate Change is so horrible, just what exactly is the optimal “average global temperature?” Second, just what sort of bullshit pseudo science do you need to use to even calculate something such as “average global temperature?”
    Can you even answer that? If “climate change” is bad, then there must be an “optimal” temperature. If there is an optimal temperature, then that is what we should strive for, assuming the hucksters are correct, and we have the ability to control the weather, why would we not aim for the optimum? Do you believe in a solid state theory of the Earth?
  • 47 Chris C // Jun 6, 2009 at 12:01 pm
    Polly, average global temperatures are trending down not up.
    Plus, the deviation of temperatures is determined by a mean from the years 1961-1990 and not the entire 200 years of recordkeeping.
    Further, rarely are the actual planet’s temperatures announced. It is always the percentage or temperature deviations that are given out. They never say stuff like “In 2007 the average temperature was 57.9 F” because they don’t want people to realize the planet really isn’t very warm to begin with, and they don’t want people like you to realize they are completely and full of shit.
    Go ahead, try and find any news article or story that tells us what the actual average temperature was for, say the years 2000-2008.
    Not the mean deviation or if it was in the top ten deviations lists, the actual temperature.
    If you want to talk about facts Polly, let’s talk facts, not myths about CO2 changing weather.
  • 48 Damo // Jun 13, 2009 at 2:59 am
    Is this page some type of joke? I am a kid and like other kids global warming is not a fun type of thing where kids play with sprinklers because soon we wont have sprinkers becuse we will have no water, due to global warming! Its us that will have to fix it because selfish people like you are taking it like a joke.
  • 49 Chris C // Jun 13, 2009 at 11:03 am
    Being a kid Damo you have not had the experience to know that a lot of adults lie to each other and to young people like yourself.
    Yes, Al Gore, the scientists, and all the politicians that back global warming are lying to you, me, and the rest of the world.
    We won’t lie to you Damo however.
  • 50 L. Schraier // Jun 13, 2009 at 11:11 am
    Oh, if only the person above me could see the irony in his comment.
    You first state that adults lie all the time. This is absolutely true, as you prove in the second and third parts of your comment, via telling the youngster nothing less than utter bullcrap.
  • 51 Chris C // Jun 13, 2009 at 3:48 pm
    No I said a lot of adults lie, not lie all the time. :)
    You might want to take a refresher course on reading comprehension before attempting to make a witty comment.
    Just a suggestion but then again I could be lying.
  • 52 L. Schraier // Jun 13, 2009 at 3:56 pm
    I meant “lie all the time” as a figure of speech, meaning to say that they tell a lot of lies. You might want to retake the fourth grade for basic figurative language comprehension, before attempting to make witty comebacks.
  • 53 Chris C // Jun 13, 2009 at 10:51 pm
    L I’m glad you are around to tell me what I meant to say because I’ve always struggled with clarity of words.
    Like when I say you are an idiot it’s just a figure of speech. I really mean you are a brilliant individual.
  • 54 Les James // Jun 14, 2009 at 9:19 am
    There seems to be a rather fundamental flaw in the reasoning ability of the ‘climate change is bad’ crowd. Before you jump down my throat, let me explain. Then jump all you want. I don’t give a shit.
    As I’ve posted before, there are two basic camps, those who believe in a divine being and those who don’t.
    Those who do surely understand that God controls the earth. We don’t have the ability to destroy it. Just doesn’t fit in well with prophesy about the end of days. For you Goreified Christians, Muslims, Jews, etc, get your collective heads out of your asses and follow your religions teachings.
    For those who believe in evolution, man is not the ruler of this planet, nature is. Even in the worst case, some life will survive and evolve back to a more intelligent state. We would not be here today if the ice ages hadn’t happened, dinosaurs going extinct by a comet or whatever, or if other major climate changes hadn’t occurred. The earth will eventually destroy mankind as it has over 90% of all species that have ever lived on this ball of dirt and start again. Maybe with better results.
    Either way, climate change was needed for HUMANS to thrive as we have, not ALL life. So God controls the universe or nature does. Take your pick and get off of your high horses and soap boxes, you bunch of egotistical, “man is more powerful than the aforementioned forces”, selfish bastards.
    Holy shit, your kind makes me want to puke.
    Have a nice day.
  • 55 Damo // Jun 15, 2009 at 5:09 am
    Well it is ok for your generation cause you wont have to live with the effects of it becaus it WILL eventually kill due to massive loss of habitat, lack of water, ‘natural’ disasters or soaring heats or imense cold weather. And what is wrong with decreasing pollution whether it is causing climate change or not?
  • 56 Chris C // Jun 15, 2009 at 12:09 pm
    Damo it will also be okay because my generation won’t have to live with the consequences of trying to reduce CO2 when we don’t even know how much the planet gives off naturally.
    100 years from now they will laugh at us like we laugh at those who thought leeches cured diseases.
    If anything Damo my generation will be looked upon with laughter and scorn at best and anger and frustration at worse for tanking the advancement of humanity.
  • 57 L. Schraier // Jun 15, 2009 at 6:18 pm
    Sadly for you, Chris, it’s doubtable this planet will be in any fit state to support life in 100 years. Yes, our generation certainly will be looked at in scorn and hatred, but certainly not for the reasons you stated.
    Hopefully, the horrendous blindless and sheep-like qualities that seems to have contaminated so many people like you will skip the next generation.
  • 58 Chris C // Jun 15, 2009 at 10:26 pm
    How am I a sheep if my conclusions are based on science and not “I feel” or “I think”?
    AGW does not stand up to the scientific method because there is no EMPIRICAL evidence.
    The climate models of the past, when compared to the actual do not match yet supposedly we know all the variables. Hindsight is always 20/20 unless all the variables are unaccounted for.
    If the models don’t match what has already happened how the hell can they be trusted as accurate indicators of future climate?
    They cannot.
    Hell they don’t even teach the scientific method in school anymore. Why do you think that is? Because it proves dumb ideas like climate change wrong or unprovable.
    Do you think I figured this out because someone told me what to think?
    Another interesting issue is temperatures. Rarely are the yearly temperatures published. They are always put out there are as means or deviations from the mean. This way they can manipulate the findings to sound worse then they are.
    The mean they use by the way are the years 1961-1990, not the entire 200+ years of recordkeeping. This is actually bad math. A mean must be based on the entire data set.
    (Do you think I read this somewhere? No I had to figure it out on my own.)
    So why do so many people believe the hype? Because all of us didn’t think math and science were important and look at how easily we are now fooled because we are ignorant as a society when it comes to these two subjects.
    (Funny how science and math are both playing a role in our current problems isn’t it?)
    They use math techniques incorrectly and they avoid the scientific method when it comes to scientific theories.
    The worst part is people like you buy into it without questioning it. That’s being a sheep.
    There are billions of dollars on the line here and it’s being controlled by politicians. Any time that happens you need to question EVERYTHING they say.
  • 59 Chris C // Jun 17, 2009 at 12:07 am
    I’d like to add a little more about the mean and temperature of the planet…
    If you go by the 1961-1990 mean (14 C) the total deviation from 1850-2008 is + 0.235655172 (about 14.22 C)
    But if you take the mean of the entire dataset the total deviation is actually -0.000251572
    (about 13.9998 C)
    What that tells us is that in the last 250 years the temperature has remained stable over time with some wild short-term swings that have corrected themselves.
    One other thing I would like to point out about fluctuations in temperature being bad for the planet. This afternoon it was 78 F. Right now it is 52 F. That is a 26 degree fluctuation in about eight hours so it is clear that the planet can handle dramatic climate change.
    It happens every day, sometimes every hour.
  • 60 OhhhIGetIt // Jul 27, 2009 at 12:48 pm
    I just got it! This is a humor site! You’re not really an ignorant American, you’re just playing the part of one! ROTFLMAO! But really, you shouldn’t make fun of them, it’s not their fault. It’s mostly due to their in-breeding combined with the deterioration of the gene pool by the excessive use of tens of thousands of untested chemicals that are pumped into the environment on a daily basis by all of us.
    You also seem to be overdoing it a bit much but reacting so heatedly to the nasty comments of those who don’t understand your humor.
    It’s really not their fault.
    The fact is that global warming does exist, we are killing-off entire species every day, we are over populating, destroying our water supply with chemicals, hormones, antibiotics and all sorts of other crap that we use on a daily basis. But we shouldn’t worry too much, the world will continue to exist whether we are here or not to see it.
    Those who want to try to do something about it, kudos, maybe it’s not to late.. maybe it is.
    Those who don’t want to do anything about it.. don’t.
    Well my rant is over, I’m going to get into my 1980 Cadillac ElDorado and sit in the Drive-Thru with the engine running, the top down, my A/C blasting, scaring the elderly and steal some candy from babies.
    (That’s satire)
  • 61 Chris C // Jul 28, 2009 at 5:11 pm
    Dear Ohhhh,
    If man-made global warming is real, and is a supposed fact you should be able to rattle off a list of species that died. How about I make it real easy for you: just name three species that the Climate Change boogeyman has killed off.
  • 62 ohhh // Jul 29, 2009 at 10:26 am
    How about this? Since your opinion of the evidence (the empirical data) is “seemingly” overwhelming accurate among scientists, universities and their peer-reviewed scientific journals, that this whole “man-made climate change” is false, why don’t you show us a single thesus or even article of yours that has been accepted by any of the reputable journals.
    Even better, I challenge you to write to sci-am and Michael Shermer and propose your interpretation of the facts.
    I’ll continue to read, but won’t waste my time posting any further. It’s like watching monkeys throw feces at each other in the zoo.. it’s a good laugh, you just don’t want to get into the cage with them and get covered with shit.
    heh
    love ya, even if you an ignorant monkey. (That’s just my opinion, not based on any empirical evidence)
  • 63 Fiar // Jul 29, 2009 at 11:27 am
    Remember the global warming, and keep it holy.
  • 64 Fiar // Jul 29, 2009 at 11:35 am
    You do realize that the world of science is just as prone to fashions and trends as any other industry. For example, there was a theory that there are 10 dimensions. It is called string theory. Now, there was a competing theory, called super gravity, where there was an 11th dimension. The scientist that led that theory was ostracised, and he asked a student of his why the student would not go into the field of supergravity. The student said, I need to actually get work.
    Ironically, The current unified theory is that there are 11 dimensions. I’m willing to bet jobs in the field of 10 dimension string theory are scarce.
    If the current trend is in the field of global warming, where exactly do you think the jobs for “global warming is a doomsday cult” are? Who’s funding that?
    Unfortunately, whether there are 10 dimensions or 11 makes no difference. Actually, it really doesn’t even make sense to me, but buying into a doomsday cult of hysteria is a recipe for handing over to government many of our individual freedoms. In fact, that is exactly the point. When someone tells you that you are in a dire situation, you become far more willing to do things you would not EVER be willing of in any other circumstance.
    The motto of the global warming hoax is: The end is near. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
  • 65 Chris C // Jul 29, 2009 at 10:27 pm
    I think the problem Ohhh is that you are confused about what empirical evidence is and how the scientific method works.
    Science doesn’t work in beliefs and feelings. It has to be based on facts.
    The “evidence” for global warming is not empirical. It is based on models and predictions which do not take into account all the variables of climate.
    According to the scientific method a theory must be falsified. If all the variables of climate are not known or fully understood, like clouds for example, then there is no way to prove or disprove a theory, thus no falsification.
    According to the scientific method AGW theory is dead in the water, yet it persists, backed up by evidence that is not empirical.
    Empirical evidence also shows that CO2 does not increase temperature. It nearly always follows temperature increases. This is why Al Gore does not overlay the two graphs of temp and CO2 in his presentations because then you would clearly see the flaws in his reasoning.
    This is basic textbook stuff, something all of us should have learned in our first science classes in school.
    Ignorance of science is a dangerous thing. It causes people like yourself to believe in opinions, thoughts, and feelings because some scientist told you so.
    There is no “I think” or “I feel” in science, only facts to be proven or dis-proven.
  • 66 Chris C // Jul 30, 2009 at 12:06 am
    Since you are also playing the “not answering questions” game I thought I would play the same game too.
    Can you show us any peer-reviewed studies or papers that are anti-AGW that were accepted by sci-am?
    On a side note it is funny Ohhh that you volunteer to bow out of the discussion when I ask you to name the species that are killed every day by Global Warming.
    If this a fact, if it is empirical evidence then you should be able to tell us. But when faced with facts and reality you resort to ad hominem attacks.
    Very telling. I can only surmise that you do not like your belief system challenged.
    Nothing brings out the left-wing loons like denying global cooling…I mean, global warming…sorry, climate change.
    ” I am a kid and like other kids global warming is not a fun type of thing where kids play with sprinklers because soon we wont have sprinkers becuse we will have no water, due to global warming! ”
    Will you moonbats at least be consistent? I thought one result of AGW was MORE rainfall, not less, because the heat makes water evaporate more, ya know.
    “That is a sad to find out that some people out there still live in a world of their own. The fact that never in the world’s history global warming was as fast as it is today seems to escape your little dense minds.”
    The first sentence is entirely true. Never in the world’s history? Prove that. How do you know that the supposed AGW is totally unprecedented? What temperature data are we going by? Did a caveman 10,000 years ago take accurate temperture readings and publish them so we could know that the problem has never been as bad?
