As the show opens, a guy with a freakishly swollen tongue is being attended to by Dr. House, then we see him discussing the case with his team. Blueblood (Chase) is horrified at his merciless taunting of the patient. “He looks like Harpo.”
“You asked him what book he’s currently reading?”
“It’s hilarious to try and watch him talk. I asked him anything I could think of.” House revels in his torment. “Favorite color: ‘Bwoo.’ Favorite dessert topping? Trust me. You never know what fact might be the key to saving your life.”
“Whipped cweam,” the patient responds.
“I asked him if he was sure.”
A man walks in and asks which one is Dr. House. House tells him it’s the skinny brunette. The man says “That’s Dr. Cameron.” House points out that he fits the vague description as well. The man says he was a patient of House’s, then shoots him, and says, “Shocking, isn’t it. Who’d want to hurt you?”
Fade to credits.

I’m still ticked that I have to wait until the fall to see what actually happened.
Still, just like I told my wife (another House addict), that was one of the best episodes of the season. I mean, damn. That episode effed with my head.

That’s just the way of things STP. They always need to have some sort of cliffhanger. Assuming the shooting was real at all, the part before he got shot was real, and the part where he was being rushed to the OR was. Everything else was a dream.
The question is, was he even shot?

Or was it a dream? If it wasn’t all a dream House is going to be curing people in prison after the stunt with the surgical robotic arm.
When the swollen tongue guy had his accident in the bathroom, my son kept asking me, “What just happened!” I kept telling my son “I’m not sure” until he made me rewind and watch it again. I think my son figured it out, but I wasn’t about to tell him. I can’t wait for the next season of House.

I don’t think I’ll be letting the young’un watch House anytime soon. I can’t wait for next season either, but at least it’s a good enough show that you can bear to watch the reruns.
