Well, for Easter, I had my bi-annual Church attendance, per the request of my Mom. I gotta tell you, I really miss the old pastor. He was actually fun to listen to.
I have always thought, “OK, these people believe some wierd things,” but he was great at giving a sermon that I could pay attention to. He would get right up in front of the congregation, and he would relate his own life experiences to what he was attempting to teach. In other words, he told the congregation how to apply the religion to their lives, and did so in an entertaining way.
He was enthusiastic, and charismatic. He could get and hold your attention. He could make you feel like there were real life applications of religious doctrine.
It would be typical for him to talk about something that happened with his kids, then pause, because he was looking at his audience, and say something like, “I see Bob knows exactly what I’m talking about.” He was not only witty, but quick witted as well. I miss him.
He was having some serious illness problems, and retired from his position. The new pastor is the. Single. Most. Boring. Speaker. Imaginable. In addition to having a monotone, drone, with a few artificially placed accents, which are so poorly placed that it actually winds up creating a metric rythm, she just shows no enthusiasm. It seemed like it was some sort of seminary school lecture. I’m quite certain that she was reading from notes, and she remained behind the pulpit the entire sermon.
So, I miss the old guy. I’m not too enthused about being “invited” to my Mom’s church again, unless they get a new pastor again. On the upside, there was no communion service to put me in the awkward position of attempting not to participate in that while my Mom attempts to push me to take it.
Anyhoo, the rest of the day was nice. We had lunch with my parents, and then went to visit my grandmother. We had the Easter egg hunt at my G-Mom’s house, and that’s always fun. Then we took the young’un to her grandmother’s house (her dad’s parents), to drop her off since she doesn’t have school today.
I hope you all had a nice Easter too.
