Introducing the Flame War Parody

November 28th, 2007 by Fiar · 26 Comments ·

Aw, Damn! We got a lot of stupid people, doing a lot of stupid things, thinking a lot of stupid thoughts, and if you want to see one, just look in the mirror. ~ Suicidal Tendencies

People will argue about anything. You could go on a gardening site and find a flame war over whether or not to use the pesticides, or which brand of rototiller is the best. It’s ridiculous.

I found that no matter how much faith you have in humanity, there is always some cave-dwelling troll waiting to pounce and crush your faith with some idiotic drooling on his keyboard from his HQ in Mom’s basement.

It’s an inescapable fact Let’s call it Fiar’s First Corollary of the Universe™ Wherever you are, there’s a troll eagerly anticipating the opportunity to prove his stupidity.

It is said that arguing on the Internet is like the Special Olympics; even if you win you’re still retarded. In homage to that spirit, I used to have a feature called Sunday Shockwaves.

The idea is to have a fun argument about an objectively stupid topic. For example, we debated whether turtles are Nature’s speed bump, or soup that comes in its own bowl?

Basically, it’s a pretend flame war, which makes it all that much more absurd. Ironically, it’s ultimately no more idiotic than any of the real flame wars breaking out all over the internet everyday..

I’m proud to announce the return of this feature as the Flame War Parody. Starting on Sunday, of course.

Rules: Just to make sure all insults are in jest, and make sure you perceive them that way as well. Think of it this way: We’re all friends here, make sure you can craft your ridicule in such a manner that we’re all still friends when it’s over as well.

If you’re not clear on how to do that, stay out of it.

Footnote, the first Flame War Parody will be set to auto publish as I will be away all weekend in honor of my birthday. For all intents and purposes I will be away until Monday.

SUNDAY HUH? WELL I THINK IT OUGHT TO BE SATURDAY! Just warming up. Sundays fine

While I can appreciate the humor in arguing about ridiculous things, I do not see any humor in your reference to Special Olympics.

I don’t believe in the absurdity of constant political correctness, but that reference is tire-some; it has been over-used for a very long time; and it betrays an ignorance of the talent and commitment that each of these special athletes possesses in order to overcome enormous challenges that they face everyday.

Surely you can find a more clever phrase to make your point than that offensive reference. Do some research on Special Olympics - better yet, attend an event - and I’m sure you will see things differently.

    Welcome to the internets, threedeweys.

You tell us this on Wednesday? That’s pretty dumb. Is it ok for me to say “dumb”? I mean, I don’t want to offend someone who is really dumb…

Why am I not surprised Threedeweys got here by searching “special olympics.” No wonder it struck a nerve. Nice tactic too. Call it “not clever.” It wasn’t intended to be clever. It was intended to be a highly known reference to make a point. You clearly pointed out that it is just that.

Vampireklown You look like you’ll be raring to go by Sunday. I know you read slow, so I guess that explains the long warmup time.

Von Do some research on dumb people. I’m sure if you did, you would see things differently. *snicker*

In all fairness Threedeweys there actually isn’t a cure for the condition waiting at the end of the special olympics for the winner.

    Retard fight! Retard fight!

  • 7 Skul // Nov 28, 2007 at 6:18 pm

I just knew FIAR would find a hole in Von’s statement.

Let me get this straight ….threedeweys googles “Special Olympics”. Decides to click on a known parody site, then gets his/her panties in a knot. Heh. Fight’s on!

richj, yer a tardmonger, stop it.
