I’ve been seeing a lot of whining about the proposed Iraqi Constitution, and how it’s so awful that they want to have some elements of Islam in their government. What’s really getting to me and making me want to just spew venom is where I am seeing people say things like, “We fought for freedom in Iraq for them to have Islamic rule.”
Pardon me if I get a little angry here, but what the Hell is your problem? My definition of democracy is that it includes a free and fair electoral process. I don’t see how a few particular rules nullify the whole deal. Should we tell Canada they don’t allow free enough speech? Should we go around telling all other democracies that they need to follow our example with exacting precision?
So, let me get this straight. Unless Iraq sets up a SECULAR government, all our soldiers fought and died for nothing? Thanks for defecating all over their graves. They might as well be dying for oil, Like Cindy Sheehan says.
Tell you what. Next time you see a courageous soldier, tell THEM it was all for nothing, because Iraq’s proposed constitution doesn’t fit YOUR specifications. It seems to me that the definition of a democratic republic would be that the government represents the will of the citizens of that nation. If Iraqis want a secular government, then they should oppose it. If they want an Islamic state, then we should shut the hell up, so long as the elections are legit.
