Eric, a scraper is a site that republishes the content of other sites, usually by automation. Most of the ones out there now use the rss feed of a site and then use a script to publish it to the site. There is one collecting our content, so I just did this experiment to see if their laziness can be to my benefit.

Totally lost me on this post. Does “scraper” mean scraping the bottom of the barrel, or does it mean laying down “scraps” of things written previously? When one is a “scraper” I see destitution, when one is a “scrapper” I see a rising star. Wouldn’t new scrapping to advance things be better than scraping up memories to remind everyone of incomplete efforts?

I already put a copyright notice in my feeds but today I added the plugin RSS Footer which provided a backlink to the original content. Google is trying to phase out Page Rank but backlinks will always have some kind of a use I think.

The feed for this post hasn’t gone out yet. I think it waits until tomorrow. So, it waits to be seen if the scraper picks this up.

UPDATE: Just minutes after declaring that this has not hit the feed yet, it did. Every single post in the last week has been on this scraper site, so let’s see about taking the bait.

Griz, it’s actually a good tactic (used more moderately). I just over did it for humor’s sake. No telling just HOW overboard I may have gone.

I don’t think the post is indexed, so they might not have liked it. If I search the first sentence in quotes, no results, so I don’t think Big G liked my strategy. The post title gives me 2 results, and that’s because the 5 newest posts are in the sidebar on every page.
