Vote Barack Obama for President of All 58 States

Am I the only one who thinks someone running for President should know how many states are in the country he wishes to preside over?

Then again, most people probably don’t know how many states there are anyway, what with outcome based education, and a fear that the children might have their feelings hurt if their incorrect answers are marked with red pens.

Most likely, voters in all “58″ states will not know if they are in one of the 8 states not in the union. If they’re Democrats, they will still be eligible to vote in multiple precincts too. Even if they’re dead.

Obama!

The controversy has reignited, possibly due to a nutty caller on the Rush Limbaugh show. This time, the focus is on 57 States, and the fact that the OIC (The Organization of the Islamic Conference) has 57 states. So, Obama said 57 states and there are 57 Islamic States. I think the evidence is pretty conclusive. Beware people. Obama is one of them there Mooselimbs.

Funny, I guess, but fairly obvious just a slip-of-tongue. More seriously though, this is exactly the kind of stuff the press seem to jump on – for all the candidates. Why bother about actual politics at all when you can beat every single mistake each of the candidates make.

Anyway, I am trying to look at all this in a humorous way. ;)

“Why bother about actual politics at all when you can beat every single mistake each of the candidates make.”

    Because it’s funnier?

Sure, Chris. But we’re not serious news. We’re political humor. What does it say about the “news” when it’s really all just fluff.

I still think it’d damned funny, easy slip of the tongue or not… so BHO wants to be President of all 58 states, huh? LMAO… He’s so articulate!

    Clean and articulate.

Maybe it is because there is no substance to the candidates in the first place?

    True

What do we remember about Bush senior the most, a no new taxes pledge or puking on a Japanese dignitary at dinner?

What a moron. Everyone knows there’s 59 states.

I read on some other blog, that while it is quite obvious this one was just a mistake; had it been George Bush, the assumption would more likely be that he really didn’t know how many states there were.

I don’t know about that. I think just as many people as would think that W really doesn’t know how many states there are think Obama really doesn’t know either.

Where there might be a difference, though, is in the media coverage. I do think in terms of media coverage there is a difference in favorable bias towards Obama and unfavorable bias towards W. So, in that respect, it might be a valid point. In terms of raw public perception, I doubt it’s true.

Hey Fiar – could that be because we’ve had nearly 8 years to observe the….slips of…well, I’ll just say ‘stupidity’ from W but only 1-1/2 years of campaigning by Obama to populate the database of his…slips.

Besides, Obama can actually pronounce words in English.

I love how the guy ripping on Obama for an obvious tongue slip can’t even spell correctly and doesn’t know the difference between “they’re” and “their”.

    “If their Democrats,…..”

Um, sorry professor, it should be “they’re”. Good try though.

You’re seriously trying to compare one of the most common typographical errors in the entire English language to Senator Obama fumbling around with trying to figure out how many states are in the country he wants to run?

Holy s#it! You are. Aren’t you?

The Obama 58 states controversy has reignited, but this time the focus on one the 57 states he claims to have visited. This is being combined with the Obama is a muslim canard.

    Here’s one example:
The Democratic ticket of Obama and Biden will, according to Barack, campaign in all 57 states. See the video below.

Now this is quite scary to those already afraid of Obama’s Muslim ties. Check this out from the Organization of the Islamic Conference:

“…The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations which has membership of 57 states spread over four continents. The Organization is the collective voice of the Muslim world and ensuring to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world. The Organization was established upon a decision of the historical summit which took place in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco on 12th Rajab 1389 Hijra (25 September 1969) as a result of criminal arson of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.

    And another:

Barack Obama’s ’57 states’ controversy is back. Is he really Muslim? [video]

Barack Obama needs to just shut up. This is his election lose, and it looks like the Illinois Senator is set on losing.

Remember the ’57 states’ controversy from the Democratic primary? In case you need to be refreshed, Obama thought he needed to visit 57 states to win the election. The problem is that the United States only has 50 states.

The resurgence may have been sparked by a caller on the Rush Limbaugh show:

CALLER: Our pleasure. Rush, I’m not a conspiracy theorist like Oliver Stone, but I also believe in the anology that where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and I’m just wondering how many gaffes that Obama is going to have make before we know his true religious leanings. I’m going to refer to 57 states, okay, several months ago when he made reference to visiting 57 states, I Google 57 and up comes the 57 Muslim states. And then the other night we were watching Fox, and they showed an excerpt of George Stenophoulos’s (sic) interview with Obama when he said, “My Muslim faith.” Well, Rush, I’ll tell you what, I came right out of the chair, and I never heard what George Stenophoulos said in response to that until I was listening to your program yesterday. In fact, I had called in and was listening to it when my cell phone went dead, but that’s another story. And I learned that Stenophoulos was the one that said Christian, and Obama –

    RUSH: That’s right.

    CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: George Stenophoulos corrected, “No, no, your Christian faith.”

    CALLER: Yes, your Christian faith.

RUSH: (doing Obama impression) “Christian faith, that’s right, Barack Obama.”

    CALLER: My Christian faith.

    RUSH: Right.

CALLER: So I’m wondering how long do we have to go before we really know. Now, Rush, this is also an opinion. Some of my friends think I’m a little wacky in this regard. I don’t believe for a second that he could have been elected as a US senator if his faith was that of Muslim, especially following 9/11. He may have been elected as a state senator –

    RUSH: Now, wait a minute.

    CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: He hasn’t been spotted in a mosque. He’s been going to Jeremiah Wright’s little hellhole up there in Chicago where they preach a bunch of hatred and stuff, but it’s not a mosque.

Note that Rush is NOT buying into the idea that Obama is a Muslim. I don’t know who’s dumber, the right wing nuts that think we need a better reason to hate Obama than the fact that he’s a harcore Socialist, or Obama, who makes Bush look like the freaking class valedictorian.
