Am I the only one who thinks someone running for President should know how many states are in the country he wishes to preside over?
Then again, most people probably don’t know how many states there are anyway, what with outcome based education, and a fear that the children might have their feelings hurt if their incorrect answers are marked with red pens.
Most likely, voters in all “58″ states will not know if they are in one of the 8 states not in the union. If they’re Democrats, they will still be eligible to vote in multiple precincts too. Even if they’re dead.

Funny, I guess, but fairly obvious just a slip-of-tongue. More seriously though, this is exactly the kind of stuff the press seem to jump on - for all the candidates. Why bother about actual politics at all when you can beat every single mistake each of the candidates make.
Anyway, I am trying to look at all this in a humorous way.

“Why bother about actual politics at all when you can beat every single mistake each of the candidates make.”
Because it’s funnier?

Sure, Chris. But we’re not serious news. We’re political humor. What does it say about the “news” when it’s really all just fluff.

I still think it’d damned funny, easy slip of the tongue or not… so BHO wants to be President of all 58 states, huh? LMAO… He’s so articulate!

Maybe it is because there is no substance to the candidates in the first place?

What do we remember about Bush senior the most, a no new taxes pledge or puking on a Japanese dignitary at dinner?

What a moron. Everyone knows there’s 59 states.

I read on some other blog, that while it is quite obvious this one was just a mistake; had it been George Bush, the assumption would more likely be that he really didn’t know how many states there were.

I don’t know about that. I think just as many people as would think that W really doesn’t know how many states there are think Obama really doesn’t know either.
Where there might be a difference, though, is in the media coverage. I do think in terms of media coverage there is a difference in favorable bias towards Obama and unfavorable bias towards W. So, in that respect, it might be a valid point. In terms of raw public perception, I doubt it’s true.

Wow, you really couldn’t tell from the pause and smile before-hand and the smile and laughter afterward that he was joking?

Hey Fiar - could that be because we’ve had nearly 8 years to observe the….slips of…well, I’ll just say ’stupidity’ from W but only 1-1/2 years of campaigning by Obama to populate the database of his…slips.
Besides, Obama can actually pronounce words in English.

I love how the guy ripping on Obama for an obvious tongue slip can’t even spell correctly and doesn’t know the difference between “they’re” and “their”.
“If their Democrats,…..”
Um, sorry professor, it should be “they’re”. Good try though.

You’re seriously trying to compare one of the most common typographical errors in the entire English language to Senator Obama fumbling around with trying to figure out how many states are in the country he wants to run?
Holy shit! You are. Aren’t you?
