I’m pleased to announce that I have joined forces with the Citizen’s Advocates for Free Speech, which is an organization of volunteers dedicated to promoting free expression on the Internet. The Citizen’s Advocates for Free Speech was inspired by the Blogger’s Code of Conduct, as suggested by Tim O’Reilly.
Initially, it was determined that some mistakes were made, and due to a general impression that the goal was one of suppression and repression, especially with respect to the use of a sheriff’s badge, and the term “civility enforced.” Using these lessons as guidelines, we set out to choose language that was more encouraging, and imagery that has a more positive nature to it, such as this “Free Speech Optimized” logo.
O’Reilly also pointed out that many people make the mistake of believing that uncensored speech is more free, when the truth is that “Free speech is enhanced by civility.” With that in mind, the Citizen’s Advocates for Free Speech celebrates this opportunity to optimize free speech on the Internet. Our mission is to honor variety over vitriol, diversity over divisiveness, and to encourage disagreeing without being disagreeable.
We look forward to protecting the Internet from unfree speech and promoting Optimum Freedom of Expression. We would be honored if you would join us.
