This week’s edition of Political Humor Quick Hits is about good news, Blagojevich, toilet paper, and funny newspaper reader comments…

Good News! The Economy is Getting Less Worse

economicshipsinking

The unemployment rate dropped:

On Friday, the unemployment rate shrank for the first time in over a year, down modestly to 9.4% from 9.5%.

Barack Obama subsequently announced that unemployment would only be measured on Fridays.

Blago Has a New Job

You know the economy is improving when there are openings for Elvis impersonators.

So which Elvis will Blagojevich be? Does he go for the thin, drugged-out King or the bloated, drugged-out version?

Once that is answered Blago will embark on his new career singing Elvis covers in Las Vegas casino bathrooms.

Cuba Institutes New Rules in Wake of Toilet Paper Shortage

Looks like Cuba doesn’t have a square to spare. From Havana:

Cuba, in the grip of a serious economic crisis, is running short of toilet paper and may not get sufficient supplies until the end of the year, officials with state-run companies said Friday.

As a result, Ramon Castro announced every citizen would get one roll of toilet paper at birth.

Bran muffins, Ex-Lax, and Natural Light beer have also been banned.

Artsy Post Reader Reacts to Patterson Claus’ Free Money Plan

Sometimes the comments on an op-ed piece are better then the actual column. One in the NY Post about Gov. Patterson’s plan to give welfare recipients $200 each has a good response:

“…and I have a collage education but I had to take any job to pay the bills.”

Is that some kind of art degree?

You might think I am just picking on a commenter who happened to make a minor spelling mistake one time.

“We were raised with good moral values and who are you to say we wernt you don’t know S23t. we all have collage education and jobs and so did my mother.”

The collage graduate, by the way applied for her education by drawing pictures of a turtle and a pirate.
