It’s the return of Short Attention Span topics! Links and Random thoughts for the week.
What?
Technology → Nightmare: Apple Ships 500,000 iPhones with short “i”. Via Point Five.
War Reporting → TJ’s Anti-Contrarian Blog uncovers a faux news story.
Blogging → Bloggrl tells us 11 Mistakes Your Blog Makes In Bed.
Blogging → 11 Things Before You Publish This really turned into a debate about the “Read More” function used by many bloggers. My take on it was that it’s annoying. It seems to me that most of the people defending it’s use seem to have all the good “blogger” reasons for justifying it, but not much of a “reader” perspective on it’s use. You’re readers. What do you think of clicking through for the whole post?
Copyrights → Steve Pavlina discusses The Truth About Piracy. What do you think about this one? Do you agree with his point of view? Discuss.
Vocabulary → Increase your word power with Remulak MoxArgon.
Writing → Brian Clark of Copyblogger asks, Do You Make These Mistakes When You Write?
Reviews → Conservathink gets reviewed by Humor-Blogs.com
2nd Amendment → Defend My Rights? You Betcha I Will. There is no equal to the Emperor.
From The Fallout Shelter → Rotten Children. Out of the Radioactive Liberty archives.
Link Pimpin’ → Wild Bill’s 2nd installment of Friday Blog Linking. Lot’s of great stuff to read there too.
Enjoy your weekend! ![]()

I like to read the read more link because…

Some of my posts are so damn long they would take up the whole front page. Also if visitors really like the beginning of my post they can continue reading if they are not interested in that post they don’t have to scroll as far for the next. Kinda like this post.
Oh and thanks for the link buddy.

Anyone want to answer my question about the “read more” thing?

An answer to your question: If the lead up to the jump (read more thingy) is interesting, I’ll “read more.” However, sometimes when I click on “read more” my eyes get a little flustered and I end up having to re-read. Overall, I tend to like the whole post if the blogger doesn’t write really long posts all the time. (Wow, this is stream of consciousness…sorry.) So actually, maybe it is whether or not the long posts are a consistent thing. Then yeah, it is a good idea, but if a person’s posts are usually not really long, maybe it is ok to just have a really long post.
Did I ever give an answer in all of that mess? I had sausage today and it rotted my brain. I will have a BLT tomorrow and be all better.

I would only use it to hide the pr0n from sensitive eyes or the punchline to a joke.
Douche.

Hey there! You may notice that I’ve started using a different URL. That is the one where I’m pulling everything together so I don’t have to go to every site.
So, you like to sleep while the rest of us are up having fun and being creative?! LOL. Take care.

Thanks Rosemary. I see the new site. I always thought it was a little odd that you had so many different sites. Maybe that’s because I find it difficult enough to provide content for one site.

I can explain the reader side of why I prefer the read more. As long as I am given enough to ’snag’ me, I will click it. Otherwise, I do not want to go through aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall of the article to get to the next article which may have news (in short order, too!) that I can really use. Sometimes, I might even just leave before I read through the whole day’s posts. This is one reason I wanted to start using the ‘read more’, but I never learned how. I just went ahead and built another blog! LOL.

(Write) Brian Clark of CopyBlogger’s link doesn’t seem to be working. You did that on purpose, didn’t you?! You know I love to read about stuff like that. I am a grammar freak, and it’s right there at my fingertips…and you screwed it up! LOL.
Please know that I am only joking with you, though I do care about grammar. I just wanted to let you about the link mistake.

If you are a grammar freak, why did you end a sentence with a preposition?

Maybe she wanted to. What are you trying to do, chase all my commenters away? I’m just making sure everything’s on the up and up. That’s what I’m here for.

RT-Chief Mongress,
OMG! As soon as I saw it, I knew which sentence you meant. Oh, how painful! The humiliation of it all! I am feeling faint. Hurry. Someone please get me a glass of water! LOL.
Thanks for the little touch of humor with the soft reminder about those darned prepositions.

My dear FIAR, you know me. It takes a whole lot more than a welcomed correction to chase me away after once again finding you! Thank you for standing up for me, but he is correct. Isn’t that we are about here? The free flow and discussion of ideas? I know you mean to do this.
(My God, I’ve been reading too many bloggers and newspapers. It is sooooo difficult NOT to end a sentence without a preposition anymore. That is why I have a special appreciation for them. They keep me in check.

I’ve been known to end a sentence with a proposition, and no one calls ME a grammar freak.

Dear Skul,
Thank you. That is very kind of you to say such a sweet thing. I do believe, however, that it is probably because you never admitted to being a grammar freak. lol.
If someone said they were a Harley freak and I caught them cruising on a Honda, can you imagine what a field day I would have? LOL. I would bring this brother down with shame so hard that he wouldn’t even look in the mirror.

Skul, you don’t own a Honda, do you? If you do, that was not the point! Only if someone said they would NOT ride one would they get a little sarcasm from me.
