Nice Half Assed Earth Hour Effort

Like the fiction that is a government stimulus, Earth Hour went from being a “symbolic” event of worldwide darkness to the equivalent of going into the lighting section of Home Depot and unscrewing one bulb at a time for sixty minutes.

I think it is safe to say this was less of an “event” and more of an “effort”.

Earth Hour’s promotion started off well with Time Magazine setting the scene in a pleasant shade of macabre:

“The image, at least, will be spectacular – monuments and skyscrapers switching off, a ring of darkness passing across the face of the planet…Global warming may never get its perfect picture – Earth Hour, a globe gone dark, may be the closest thing we’ll have.”

A ring of darkness? A globe gone dark? Is the spirit of Edgar Allen Poe writing for them these days?

Those phrases sound especially onerous and far from “spectacular” when you consider cities like Detroit going lights-out for sixty minutes.

Yikes!

The “effort” went downhill  however once the results came in:

Man, was Gotham dark or what? I’m still trying to make out the Empire State Building in the after-picture. I feel like that guy in Mallrats that never saw the sailboat.

Here was Times Square’s “effort”:

I don’t think you could even call this half-assed. More like 1/8th-assed. One of the video screens even changed. A nice touch.

This was from Rio, the city that won the award for the least amount of “effort”:

I think the only lights they turned off were the two floods on the beach. Aww man I was going to play volleyball.

Despite the evidence to the contrary, the moonbats declared Earth Hour a success based on their “efforts”. It didn’t matter that nobody participated. It only mattered that they tried to get them involved.

After all, when it comes to result-based concepts and liberals it is a lot like the line from that famous poem:

Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore.”
