Solar power is having some problems in Arizona.

These are sunny days for Arizona’s solar-energy industry, with photovoltaic panels sprouting up on rooftops and major utility-scale installations planned across the state.

But some see clouds forming.

Land and water issues, including restrictive public-land-use policies and opposition from some environmentalists and neighbors, have stalled some major projects, a report by a University of Arizona law professor concludes.

Lefties opposing other lefties? How dare they go off the reservation. Are they not aware of the consequences for such insubordination?

And just what is at the core of the opposition’s argument?

Some of the most promising large-scale solar technologies – thermal systems that concentrate sunlight to make steam that runs generating turbines – may require too much land and water to be cost-effective and environmentally sound, says UA law professor Robert Glennon.

“It takes a heck of a lot of water, a heck of a lot of land, and we don’t have lot of either; that’s uncontested,” said Glennon, co-author of “Solar Energy’s Cloudy Future,” published in November in the Arizona Journal of Environmental Law & Policy. UA law student Andrew Reeves was co-author.

Oh yeah that. There’s not much water in the desert. They just noticed.

Now if they could get around to noticing these solar panel projects often get funded at 110% of the cost and the contractor bails cause he made his money. Your tax dollars or higher electric rates stimulating the economy.

And notice the co-author. How would you like to be one of these greens all gung ho for these projects only to get blindsided in a study by a college student?

Now, if I can just find the world’s smallest violin. I’m in the mood to play a few renditions of “My Heart Bleeds”.

This week’s Political Humor Quick Hits is about a budget cut fantasy, a green energy reality, and salt.

Obama Orders Cabinet to cut 100 Million from the Budget

Now this is a mandate for change:

“President Barack Obama on Monday ordered his Cabinet to find ways to slice spending by $100 million, but acknowledged it’s a “drop in the bucket”…”

Slow down there buddy. First an IPod for the Queen of England, then DVD’s for the Prime Minister and now this?

Are we moving too fast?

I know, whatever percentage 100 million out of 3.1 trillion dollars is, the amount is still smaller then the part of Nancy Pelosi’s face that still has nerve endings.

I know, if it was a drop, it evaporated due to global warming long before it hit the bottom of the bucket.

None the less, after last week’s Tea Parties, Obama addressed the urgency to act on the spending problem a half-sentence later in the news article:

“…and said there’s a “confidence gap” that he needs to overcome.”

If he moves any faster there could be a Stamp Act.

Bad News About Green Energy: “It isn’t cheap”

Did the USA Today call out the realities of alternative fuels right on the front page of its Money section Monday?

“Clean energy has a dirty secret.

It isn’t cheap.

Consumers already are starting to feel at least a modest pinch in their electric bills. The impact is expected to grow in the next few years as utilities accelerate their investments to meet state quotas requiring a portion of clean energy in their generation mix. And bills in Congress would impose a similar national quota, an idea President Obama supports.”

How dare they! It gets worse for the bleeding-heart liberals:

“In Arizona, Tucson Electric Power has raised rates 4.5%, or about $4 a month for an average customer, the past two years to fund new solar power to meet state quotas. Solar is pricey, costing more than twice as much as natural-gas-fired electricity. And since Arizona has surplus natural-gas power, the solar energy has not replaced generators that would be built otherwise, says the utility’s Joe Salkowski.“

Surely someone in one of the moonbat bastions of America dropped their croissant after reading that, all the while cursing the “conservative”  mainstream media for spreading such lies and ruining their breakfast.

I can hear the liberals now…

Moonbat Monty: “That awful rag paper USA Today!”

Chris: “The USA Today is more objective then most newspapers.”

Monty: “By objective you mean right-wing of course. Anyways, with wind and solar power, people can go back to growing crops and living in communes. America will be a happy place and free from the tyranny of oil.”

Chris: “But then the rest of the world would still use oil leaving us at a serious disadvantage.”

Monty: “We could sell them our oil.”

Chris: “Oh that’s a great idea. But what if they decide to just come and take it?”

Monty: “Well if they need it that badly then they can have it. We shouldn’t fight over stupid things like oil…”

Chris: “And salt.”

Monty: “Salt? WTF? Don’t be a right-wing radical extremist. We don’t have wars over salt!”

Chris: “We did quite often throughout history. In fact in 1877 there was a fight over salt rights in the Guadalupe Mountains east of El Paso.

Humans have fought over just about every resource on the planet at some point. To think that will ever stop is being short-sighted so it makes sense to defend whatever resources we have.”

Monty: “This is why we need conservatives out of the education system. They brainwashed you. Salt! LOL!”

Not brainwashed but rather a sane man living in an insane world. Just going off the rails on a crazy train…
