Stop the ACLU has a post about Ten Reasons Why the West Will Lose the War on Terror (the pessimist’s view).
Here’s one of them:
6. The West refuses to become energy independent. The fuel of radical Islam is our petrol-dollars. No war can be fought successfully when the enemy controls the energy and our economy through our own continued foolish choices - choices we make because of a paralyzing political fear of radicalized environmental worship. Russia, Venezuela, and the Mid-east oil producers can be counted on to close us off in a second should it be thought by them to be to their advantage. Undermining and bringing down super-power America is already their desire. All that is necessary is the minutest turn of events. The eminent war with radicalized Islam offers much more than minute potential, when it comes to affording them opportunity. Energy is victory and lack of sufficient energy is defeat. Our domestic eco-politics have chosen to aid the enemy. (Emphasis mine ~ FIAR)
That’s why I support a War for Oil, and why it’s so insufferably stupid that the Leftards cry, “No blood for oil!”

I say we milk them dry of every last ounce of oil, guzzle it down like liquor, and while we move on to better more abundant sources of energy, the petrofaschists of the world starve to death. The faster we use it up, the sooner they will die.
Atleast that’s how my little fantasy works.

Put famers back to work, use ethanol. Let the Middle East keep their oil

PP,
That would be fine be me if China, Russia, India, Europe and everyone else would do the same. The problem is if we don’t buy/take their oil, someone else will. Going it alone won’t solve the problem.
And who are those famers you mentioned? Are they related to defamers?

Not to mention the cost involved in switching over all the cars already on the road, plus switching over production.
I assume this means Penn Prog isn’t planning on joining the blogroll.

Maybe I’ll be able to grow daisies out of my ass too. Seems just as likely.

Maybe we need an Islamic twist. Perhaps “Jihad for Oil”.
Maybe there could be the occasional “Light Sweet Fatwa”.

I prefer war for oil because of it’s violent, and chaotic nature, but more energy for us is a good reason too.

Why must oil be in the craziest places? If it weren’t for oil, the ME would be worse off than most of Africa. I can’t wait for the day we stop pouring money into their coffers.
